New Solicitors’ Conduct Rules – Commencing 1 January 2026
The new Legal Profession (Solicitors) Conduct Rules 2025 (Solicitors’ Conduct Rules) will commence on 1 January 2026.
These amendments follow sector-wide consultation and are designed to bring the ACT into alignment with the Australian Solicitors’ Conduct Rules (ASCR) while also addressing emerging issues in legal practice.
What members need to know

The new Rules will replace the Legal Profession (Solicitors) Conduct Rules 2015 from 1 January 2026

The ACT-specific Guidelines and Commentary will be retired at the same time

From commencement, members are encouraged to refer to the ASCR Guidelines and Commentary for interpretive guidance. Please note that these materials do not form part of the Rules and should not be treated as definitive or exhaustive
